We are all different; we all have something to contribute to this world. Recognising that you are important, no matter who you are, is an essential part of being a man. Seeing this enables you to speak your truth whatever the situation is. Whatever your truth is is personal to you, it doesn’t matter what it is. What does matter is that you own it and speak it.
People are often afraid that what they think will upset others, that what they say will not be acceptable. If that is the case it is a problem for the listener not the speaker. We all need to find the courage to be vulnerable, the strength to show who we are without needing certainty on how it will be received. Yes, we can feel fear, but you can speak all the same.
Stand out from the crowd and speak your truth, find the courage to be vulnerable.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story.Max Ehrman
I grew up learning to be unsure of myself and what I thought.
I spent my earlier years thinking other people were more important than me and that I what I had to say didn’t matter. This had a profound effect on my view of myself and my view of others. This created a hierarchy in my mind and I believed that people were not equal. Quite how I could get to be important and listened to I was not sure, but I felt it had to be possible.
Eventually I discovered that, in essence, I was no different than anyone else, I just thought differently. I discovered that we are all important in our own way and that we are all worthy to be listened to. It is, however, up to us to realise this and up to us to speak up and be heard.
I say what I feel with compassion and understanding for others. I no longer fear the reaction. Whether positive or negative it has caused the listener to think.
- Do you speak your truth? Do you speak up and say what you have to say? Do people know what you think and who you are?
- Do you have courage when it is needed or do you fear the consequences?
- Do you listen to others and allow them to speak? Do you judge the importance of others?
- How could you step up, be everything you are and show the world how to live and act?
