As I start to wind up this cycle I would like to look at some major issues in your life. Firstly what is the major principle in your life? What will you stake your life on? In recent history this has been very clear for some men. The periods of world war experienced in the twentieth century had clear cut issues that many men related to. Many men lost their lives in defence of freedom and their country.
All fathers like to feel they would defend their children with their lives and hope that they never have to put this to the test. Beyond that it is far less clear cut. What do men have defend? What is there in life that is worth or demands the ultimate sacrifice?
What will you stake your life on? It is time to look at what is important to you. Maybe you have never been put to the test, if you were, suddenly, where would you stand.
If you greatly desire something, have the guts to stake everything on obtaining it.Brendan Francis
I have never faced this question and do not know the answer.
I am a very opinionated person who believes strongly in many things. When I was young I was a staunch member of CND and demonstrated for Nuclear Disarmament. I feel the void of being born just after the Second World War and feel the lack of an issue that I would regard as worth dying for.
I think freedom is vital and is something precious that we take for granted. many men have laid down their to ensure we have it. I also believe in non-violent solutions, particularly in light of my angry past.
Maybe I should celebrate not having to lay own my life for freedom, or anything else. There are many people in this world who do not have this freedom, how would I feel in their position? I just don’t know.
- Have you ever been in a position where an issues has been so important to you that you would have staked your life on it?
- Are you in a situation now that would put you in this position?
- Do you celebrate the freedom you have, do you even recognise how much freedom you have?
- What can you do to help others towards the freedom they deserve?
