Day 10 — Are You Seeking The Truth?

It is important to be aware of what you are seeking. Everyone seeks something in life, whether it's a quiet life or a life of risk and adventure. The difficulty arises when you don't know what it is and you create confusion for yourself.

Focused and Directed

Men are traditionally focused and directed. They excel at knowing what they want and how they're going to get it. That, however, is a stereotype. The truth is often far from that, men are afloat with no chart to guide them. This is one of the major causes of men not feeling they are men.

It is important to know what the truth is for you and the best way to go about seeking it. This will be a lifelong journey, so it's best to take the right equipment along.

It is not the possession of truth, but the success which attends the seeking after it, that enriches the seeker and brings happiness to him.

Exploring My Life

I had a period around mid-life when I felt adrift and rudderless, it was a disorienting experience.

I didn't know whether the direction I had taken in my career was the right one. I was adrift financially. I didn't know where I was going as a father. I tried counselling, but they just asked what I wanted. I didn't know who to turn to to help me through this dilemma.

I started reading and exploring what I thought and what I felt. I looked at my life and audited it. I put myself through a detailed inspection and eventually realised a simple truth. I was seeking 'the truth' and that truth was already inside me. I felt like Santiago in 'The Alchemist', I had gone on a journey only to return to where I had started.

The realisation that I had already known the truth and was not recognising it gave me such clarity. It enabled me to open to what was inside me.
