Day 23 — How To Live With Uncertainty
To move forward is to move into uncharted territory. To change is to become something you yet don't fully understand. To grow is to become something new. This is a path of exhilaration and excitement, a path of wonder.
The Uncertainty of the Future
Even though you have a vision, a view of the new you, even though you see where and who you are, you need to be able to accept the uncertainty of the future. To progress into this uncertainty in full knowledge that you don't know where the future will lead is the sign of a great leader, the sign of someone who has their life in their hands.
Tony Robbins said that the quality of your life is in direct proportion to amount of uncertainty you can comfortable manage. Embrace that uncertainty and find your life blossoming.
The only thing that makes life possible is permanent, intolerable uncertainty; not knowing what comes next.
Uncertainty Exhilarates Me
When I left my home and my first marriage after more than 35 years I faced the fear of uncertainty.
As I moved forward I didn't know where it would lead. As I still move forward I still don't know where it will lead. That is as I want it, that is what exhilarates me.
I live with a perspective of expecting life to become something far beyond my expectations, and that is what happens. My life is more amazing every day, more exciting, more stimulating, because of the extent to which I have embraced uncertainty.
Yes, I find this scary, yes, it unnerves me, but I still would not change it. Living in uncertainty means being vulnerable, being vulnerable means I need to be certain about myself. The vulnerability is a great counter to the power and strength I embrace, it softens me. The vulnerability exposes me to the world and allows others in to my life. This how I have decided to live, to love.
- How much certainty do you crave? What do you need in your life?
- What can you let go of, emotionally, as you move forward. What is it no longer important to know?
- How much uncertainty have you embraced in the past? How was that? Was it disturbing for you or did you find it creative?
- How much do you intend to embrace uncertainty in the future? To what extent can you integrate this as part of your life?
