Day 21 — How Will You Achieve Change?
There are many ways to achieve change. I learned about re-wiring our neural pathways so I can deal with some of the more complex issues of change. Many men want life to be simple, they want to be what they envision.
The Simplicity of Change
The issue they face is how to achieve this simplicity of change. Men can make the mistake of thinking it's just the outward world that needs to shift, hence the frequency of young mistresses and new jobs, whereas it is internally that the work needs to happen. Even simple change needs to come from inside, needs to come from the heart.
Do you know how to go about achieving change in your life. I'm talking about deep, lasting change, change that comes from your soul, change that means something to you. If you truly believe in what you are doing it will come to you.
What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.
Internal Change
When I was in my early 40's I applied for and was appointed to a job back in the professional theatre.
The job of Production Manager was one I always wanted when I was young. When I told my then boss that I was leaving he looked at me and said, "Well, most men get young girlfriends when they're 40, is this really what you want?" I knew that he was right, that try trying to go back and revive my youth was not the way forward.
I started down a path of internal change, often hesitant, always challenging. Much of what is in this 40 day challenge is a synthesis of what I went through, the questions I asked myself, the journey I took. The enduring message I learnt was that change never stops, it's an attitude of mind. Once you attain it you welcome it into your life every day.
I still seek change and enjoy the process.
Challenge
- You already have a sense of what needs changing, of the ideal you, don't you? Think back over the last 3 days, review your thoughts and the outcomes you want.
- Write down a short list of the changes that come out of this. Keep this list on a card in your wallet.
- How are you going to go about implementing these? How are you going to move forward? Do you know or do you need more tools or approaches?
- Decide on what's next. What will be the first step on the journey of internal change?
